The Arts Arena and World Monuments Fund – CULTURAL PRESERVATION IN THE FACE OF WAR

06 March 2024 | 19:00 – 22:00

Location: Columbia Global Centers | Paris, 4 rue de Chevreuse, Paris 6e

Since the Russian invasion in 2022, Ukrainian cultural heritage has faced immediate threats and risks. From Odessa to Kiev, and Lviv to Kharkiv, attacks on Ukrainian heritage – both physical monuments and cultural identity — have been wide-reaching: and include targeted attacks within historic cities, the destruction of cultural sites, and the kidnapping of Ukrainian children to forcibly make them “Russian.” Kateryna Goncharova, WMF’s person on the ground in Ukraine, will detail initiatives taken to protect heritage, conduct damage assessment, and the impact of these efforts on local communities.
