24 March 2025 | 19:00 – 22:00

Location: Columbia Global Centers | Paris, 4 rue de Chevreuse, Paris 6e

Lucinda Childs is an icon of postmodern dance. Now, from March 19-22 at Théâtre de Chaillot, she will present the first new works she has developed in almost a decade, “Four New Dances.” Performed by the Lucinda Childs Dance Company in collaboration with visual artist Anri Sala, pianist Anton Batagov, and composers Philip Glass and Hildur Guðnadóttir, they include a solo danced by Childs herself.

Born in New York City in 1940, Lucinda Childs began her career as a dancer, choreographer, and founding member of the Judson Dance Theater before founding her own company in 1973. She has collaborated repeatedly with artists Robert Wilson and Philip Glass, in such key works as Einstein on the Beach and Dance, as well as with visual artist Sol LeWitt, composer John Adams, and architect Frank Gehry. Since 1980, Childs has been directing and choreographing works at major opera houses and for ballet companies including the Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris, the Bavarian State Ballet, the Martha Graham Dance Company, the Los Angeles Opera or the Opéra national du Rhin.

Among her numerous awards and distinctions, Lucinda Childs is a Commandeur de l’Ordre de la Légion d’honneur and Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres; she received the Gold Lion at the 2017 Dance Biennale in Venice as well as the 2022 Dance Magazine Award.

Lucinda Childs is a member of the Arts Arena’s Advisory Council. She will be in conversation with Arts Arena Founder and Artistic Director Margery Arent Safir. A coupe de champagne will follow.
