JENNIFER TIPTON: The “Dirty Art” of Lighting Design

17 June 2022 | 19:00 – 22:00

Location: 4, rue de Chevreuse, Paris

Called the “Queen of Theater Lighting” by POLITICO, Tipton is a MacArthur “genius” Fellow who has done lighting design for a who’s who of dance, theater, and opera, ranging from Paul Taylor to Robert Wilson to the Wooster Group (and just this year the Broadway revival of West Side Story). Along the way, she has acquired Tonys, Bessies, and the Dorothy and the Lillian Gish Prize.

On the occasion of the Paris Opera Ballet’s performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by George Balanchine, for which she did the lighting design, Jennifer Tipton will be in conversation with Margery Arent Safir about the secret power of the designer behind the lights.
