JAMES IVORY AND STEPHEN SCHER

OUT OF THE BOX

04 October 2023 | 19:00 – 22:00

Location: Cinéma Les 7 Parnassiens, 98 boulevard Montparnasse, Paris 14e

Academy Award-winning screenwriter and director James Ivory started filming in Afghanistan some 60 years ago, but the film stayed in a box. Fifty years ago, in the 1970s, art historian and curator Stephen Scher began filming interviews in France on French cuisine and restaurants, but the film stayed in a box. Friends and fellow members of the Arts Arena’s Advisory Council, Ivory and Scher have now taken their half-century-old films out of the box and finished the movie each intended to make back then. They will both be at the Arts Arena to present these newly-completed documentaries – A Cooler Climate (72′) and The Way It Was: Paris Restaurants in the 1970s (44′). The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the audience and a coupe de champagne.
