Martha Graham (1894 – 1991), the legendary American modern dancer, teacher, and choreographer, reshaped the dance world. Over her 50-year career, she created more than 180 works, ranging from solos to large-scale performances, often dancing in them herself, and developed a unique dance technique as an alternative to classical ballet. The Graham Technique is still taught worldwide. In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the Martha Graham Company will perform at Theatre du Chatelet from November 9-13. Janet Eilber, the company’s Artistic Director will be in conversation with Margery Arent Safir about Graham and her exceptional influence on American modern dance.
